I have no idea. I have a hard time when animals are treated as children. Loved members of the family? Sure!
I bought some patterns today (my very first ones ever!!) and while perusing the pattern book (who knew they had a book!) there were patterns for outfits for matching owners and dogs. Yikes!
Ridiculous. A dog has this thing called "fur" that keeps it plenty warm without any help from humans.
Sometimes dogs get cold and they like to take the warmth of blanket with them. It's really quite simple.
I've already bought my dog a Snuggie for Christmas. So, I think the answer to your question is: "marketing." If you make a product for my dog, stamp on the box "As Seen On TV," and price it right, I will buy it.
